With an emphasis on QHSE, the Stability and Ballast Control for MODUs course is designed to meet the specific regulatory requirement for obtaining the Offshore Installation Manager, Barge Supervisor and Ballast Control Operator merchant mariner certification. This course will introduce the participant to stability theory, the effect of weight on stability and trim, appropriate mathematical calculations, load form usage, ballast control procedures for trim and list and using information provided in the rig’s operations manual for safe operation of the mobile offshore drilling unit.
This course is designed for personnel in rig and shore-based positions such as Senior Toolpusher, Toolpusher, Driller, Barge Engineer, Contracts Manager, Technical Assistant, OIM and future OIM, Rig Manager, Project Manager.
There are no formal pre-requisites for this level of training; however, this course has been designed for personnel with supervisory responsibilities for the unit, onshore or offshore, or with responsibilities related to technical documentation.
This 4-day course is designed to provide participants with the fundamental knowledge of jack up operations, and specifically the control of stability and ballast. This course combines lecture discussions and theoretical training.
A written assessment will be conducted on the last day of training with a pass mark of 80%. Successful completion of this course and assessment will result in an Aberdeen Drilling School certificate which is valid for 2 years.
