Overview

This 4-week course has been designed as a fast-track programme to prepare existing assistant drillers (ADs) for promotion to driller. The programme is typically delivered where candidates have regular access to a live training rig. In locations where a training rig is not available, the course can be customised to make use of drilling simulators and other practical exercises intended to replicate the well site environment. This course descriptor outlines the training as it would be delivered where there is access to a training rig.

Designed For

This course is specifically designed for existing assistant drillers (ADs)  selected by their employing company as a candidate for promotion to driller.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for this type of training; however, candidate suitability, prior work experience, and assumed base knowledge will be discussed and agreed with the client in the early stages of candidate selection.

Course Delivery

The course is delivered over 4 weeks (140 hours) and focuses on the main duties and tasks which a new driller will undertake. 50% of the programme is delivered on a live training rig where candidates will be coached as they undertake tasks common to their intended new role as a driller. The other 50% of the programme is delivered in the classroom where the candidates’ practical training is consolidated through presentation of a series of interactive lectures supported by videos and animations, supplemented by a classroom workbook and further self-study exercises.

Certification

Successful completion of the course will result in an Aberdeen Drilling International certificate which is valid for life and does not need to be repeated or renewed.
